Tani Smida is the sole proprietor of Birdlady's Babes. Her energy is the
driving force that originally created and continues to maintain this sanctuary.
Born and raised in California, Smida has been surrounded by animals her
whole life, albeit, mostly mammals. She became an aviculturist by default
when, in 1981, she inherited a pair of Double Yellow-headed Amazons from
her mother. She took these charges to her new home on the Central Coast
where she decided to pursue her mother's dream of breeding parrots.
It didn't take long to realize that parrots were very special creatures deserving her full attention. The first time she fed a baby Psittacine she was smitten and her fate was sealed. Over the years she has narrowed the Genera she works with to four: Amazona, Cacatua, Ara and Psittacus.
Tani is a dedicated aviculturist who sells most of her babies to reputable
retailers who specialize in hand-fed parrots. When dealing with individual
buyers she prides herself in educating them. Smida knows that her babies
will have far better homes if the people who care for them are knowledgable
so she remains available for consultation in the years that follow purchase.
